Nako Safari Lodge, DinokengKruger National Park, South Africa
About This Property
NAKO Safari Lodge is a luxury safari lodge in the Dinokeng North Private Game Reserve in Gauteng. It’s particularly convenient if you’re looking for a Big Five safari without travelling as far as Kruger or the Sabi Sand. It’s approximately an hour from Johannesburg, around 45 minutes from OR Tambo and about 30 minutes from Pretoria.
The lodge has five luxury suites, including options suitable for couples as well as families. The suites are designed with a private, upscale feel and include air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and luxury bathrooms. Some also have private fire pits and outdoor showers.
One of the appealing features is the waterhole directly in front of the lodge, where wildlife can come to drink. The reserve is home to the Big Five, and game drives are offered with experienced guides. You therefore get both the traditional game-drive experience and the opportunity to watch animals from the lodge itself.
The lodge has a swimming pool overlooking the waterhole, a boma and firepit area, viewing deck, bar and children's facilities. Meals are included in the lodge's all-inclusive offering, with menus that can be customised.
Guest reviews are generally very positive, particularly regarding the rooms, food, hospitality and game drives. Its biggest advantage is probably the combination of a luxury lodge atmosphere with easy access from Johannesburg.
If you're considering staying there, I can also give you my honest view on whether NAKO is actually worth the price, including how it compares with other safari lodges in the area.
