About This Property
Okutala Etosha Lodge is exactly the kind of place you’d call a lodge with a view—set right in front of a waterhole. While the waterhole itself may not be large, it offers constant, close-up wildlife sightings that feel anything but small. It’s the kind of setting where you can sit back with a glass of wine and watch rhinos and giraffes coming down to drink just a few dozen metres away.
One of the lodge’s most memorable features is its care for orphaned giraffes, who are often seen wandering close to guests. They move through the grounds with surprising ease, making encounters feel natural and unforced—especially magical for families with children.
The property sits on a vast 24,000-hectare farm, so expect a long, scenic drive from the entrance gate to the main lodge. Arriving around dusk is particularly striking, as wildlife can often be spotted even before you reach your accommodation, giving the sense that the safari begins the moment you enter.
Although it feels remote and deeply immersed in nature, the lodge is still conveniently close to Etosha National Park—about 25 miles away, or roughly a 40-minute drive—offering both seclusion and easy access to one of Namibia’s premier wildlife destinations.
Accommodation includes 21 air-conditioned rooms, each with a private shaded patio. Several overlook the waterhole directly, placing wildlife encounters literally at your doorstep. Family rooms are also available, featuring a shared bathroom and a separate adjoining bedroom with an internal door—ideal for keeping close to children while still enjoying privacy and space.
The wildlife experience continues throughout the day. Giraffes often roam through the dining and pool areas, while smaller residents such as chipmunks, mongooses, and peacocks add to the lively, natural atmosphere. Even routine moments like breakfast or a swim can come with unexpected animal sightings.
