Lake Manyara National Park
About
Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania's most scenic and ecologically diverse wildlife destinations. Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, the park stretches along the shores of the shallow alkaline Lake Manyara, creating a spectacular landscape of groundwater forests, open grasslands, acacia woodlands, marshes, and the lake itself.
Although relatively small in size, the park supports an extraordinary diversity of wildlife. It is famous for its legendary tree-climbing lions, a rare behaviour that has made Lake Manyara one of the few places in Africa where these remarkable predators are regularly seen resting in the branches of acacia trees. The park is also home to large herds of elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, baboons, blue monkeys, and an abundance of antelope species.
Lake Manyara is a paradise for bird enthusiasts, with more than 400 recorded bird species. Depending on seasonal water levels, thousands of pink flamingos gather along the lake's shoreline, accompanied by pelicans, storks, herons, fish eagles, and countless other waterbirds and migratory species.
The park's varied habitats provide exceptional game-viewing opportunities within a compact area, making it an ideal destination for both first-time safari travellers and seasoned wildlife enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy traditional game drives, guided nature walks in designated areas, and the famous treetop canopy walkway, which offers a unique perspective of the forest from ab
