Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania's most rewarding safari destinations, renowned for its vast elephant herds, iconic baobab trees, and exceptional wildlife viewing. Located in northern Tanzania, the park forms part of the country's famous Northern Safari Circuit and offers a quieter, more intimate safari experience than some of its larger neighbours.

Named after the Tarangire River, the park's only permanent water source, it becomes a vital refuge during the dry season as thousands of animals migrate into the area in search of water. This seasonal concentration of wildlife makes Tarangire one of the best places in East Africa to witness large gatherings of animals in their natural habitat.

The park is home to one of the highest concentrations of elephants in Africa, with herds numbering in the hundreds often seen along the riverbanks. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impalas, elands, and numerous antelope species also thrive within the park. Tarangire is particularly well known for its impressive populations of rare species such as the fringe-eared oryx and the long-necked gerenuk.

Birdwatchers are equally rewarded, with more than 550 recorded bird species making Tarangire one of Tanzania's premier birding destinations. From colourful lovebirds and bee-eaters to majestic raptors and waterbirds, the park offers outstanding birdlife throughout the year.

The landscape is characterised by rolling savannahs, ancient baobab trees, acacia woodlands, seasonal swamps, and the winding Tarangire River, creating a spectacular backdrop for game viewing and photography. With its dramatic scenery, abundant wildlife, and peaceful atmosphere, Tarangire National Park is a memorable highlight of any Tanzanian safari.
