Botlierskop Tented Lodge is a luxury tented safari lodge within Botlierskop Private Game Reserve, on the Garden Route between Mossel Bay and George. It is approximately 4½ hours from Cape Town and offers a convenient malaria-free safari experience in the Western Cape.

The lodge is set along the Moordkuil River, with the tented suites positioned to take advantage of views across the reserve, river and surrounding mountains. It has a particularly romantic atmosphere and is well suited to couples and honeymooners, although children aged six and older are welcome.

The accommodation has been newly renovated and offers several categories of luxury tented suites. Depending on the category, suites feature oversized king beds, deep oval baths, indoor and outdoor showers, air conditioning, fireplaces, minibars, tea and coffee stations and private decks. The Executive Tented Suites are particularly spacious, with 180-degree river views, a private Jacuzzi and an open-air bed for sleeping under the stars.

Safari activities include guided Big Five game drives and horseback safaris, allowing guests to experience the reserve from both an open 4x4 vehicle and horseback. The reserve covers around 6,000 hectares and supports free-roaming Big Five wildlife within a distinctive Cape Fynbos environment.

Wellness is another strong feature. The award-winning Fijnebos Spa & Wellness has a heated indoor pool and 24-hour gym, while the lodge also has swimming pools and spa treatments.

Dining is offered at Veld Restaurant, with indoor and outdoor seating, as well as the Fire Restaurant, which focuses on African open-fire cooking and wine pairings. The lodge also has a fully licensed bar and lounges.

For a Garden Route itinerary, Botlierskop is particularly appealing if you want to add one or two nights of safari without travelling to the traditional South African safari regions. Its combination of Big Five wildlife, mountain and river scenery, luxury tented accommodation and spa facilities makes it a very convenient Cape Town/Garden Route safari option.

The current packages for 2026 include breakfast, lunch and dinner, sunrise and sunset game drives, with selected two- and three-night packages offering the option to substitute a game drive for a horseback safari or spa treatment.
